Updated January 18, A lack of female-only, sydney door public showers at a popular Sunshine Coast beach has prompted a Muslim organisation to call unisex councils to consider religious beliefs when designing infrastructure after unisex family used the amenities at a members-only surf club without permission. The Muslim family were holidaying at Coolum Beach when they used the surf club's members-only private showers because there were no female-only public amenities sydney wash off in private, sparking a difficult conversation between the family and a Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrol captain.
Showers patrol captain, who asked to remain anonymous, sydney the family were using the private showers, in the fenced off surf showers area, during the busy holiday period as they had showers else to go.
The Sunshine Coast Council said the showers at Coolum were "located externally to maximise the internal footprint of the public amenity for toilets, changing facilities and hand showers. However, a spokesperson for Muslim Organisation Sunshine Coast MOSC said the council needed to consider the region's growing Muslim population when designing infrastructure that may make it difficult for women to observe their beliefs.
The MOSC spokesperson sydney the organisation had around members and numbers had grown significantly in the last five years. The council said there were other public shower facilities across the Sunshine Coast which had separate female showers with doors to cubicles.
The unisex public toilets at Coolum beach have also come under fire after a four-year-old girl was indecently assaulted at unisex toilet blocks at Tickle Park two weeks ago. We have been enjoying our annual holiday camping at Big 4 Soldiers Point for many years now. Facilities were awesome as usual, although the games room could do with unisex upgrade in game consoles, including relevant games for older children and teenagers staying open a little later, including T. V would be a nice addition but We were not happy with the new 'unisex bathrooms'. There were loads of issues with this. Firstly, I did not enjoy taking a refreshing shower in the same room as a public, smelly toilet.
I do enjoy a hot shower, but the exhaust fan didn't seem to be able to cope, so I lowered the temp considerably and tried different bathrooms, but this made no difference. Showers mirror was fogged and the bathroom was misty making my things wet. Having personal bathrooms did not keep the traffic flowing, as I was taking too long having to stay in the same room to blow dry hair and do makeup which is not easy in a hot foggy room. My husband did not feel comfortable with me going over to use the toilet on my own during the night being unisex.
I would be very cautious of letting my teenage daughter shower over there on her own too, not to mention adults showering together while children are next door. This is wrong on all levels. My husband felt very uncomfortable in the same bathroom as young girls My husband felt very uncomfortable in the same bathroom as young girls.
Note: bathroom floor tiles are slippery. We absolutely love the location, the park facilities and surrounding tourist attractions. Best big 4 so far. Excellent kids activities, playgrounds and pool. Spacious location yet small enough to let the kids roam free.
Spring free tramps, grass fields for balls and running, bike track, pools. The works. Location was ideal and right next to the bowls club for restaurant food. Local beach average, better beach 5 min drive, Nelson bay 15 mins away. Games room was average.
We stayed in a bungalow. A little small but enough for sleeping and eating. Bedrooms are tight, but the place was very clean and sydney enough crockery, utensils, tea, coffee, condiments I would definitely stay again. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. A perfect place for sydney under five years old - we've gone twice now. Indoor facilities means good activities available even when there's wet weather.
During the low season they have good value deals. Have stayed in both the larger Kentia cabins and the smaller Cascade cabins - both were spacious, modern and had plenty of tropical plants around windows to give privacy despite the close neighbours.
Despite what we were told by the park the Cascade cabin's second unisex was certainly large enough for a portacot. The toilet had an in-built toddlers seat.
There is a kids safety gate built in at the showers of the deck stairs to keep toddlers in. Even over one year it's great to see this park investing in bigger and better facilities - there was new playground equipment and a new gym with basic cardio equipment that is free to use with payment of refundable deposit.
The park also has a basic communal herb garden. Across the road from a small calm beach and jetty for fishing and next door to the local bowls club makes its location relatively self contained.
We did have ants in the kitchen ironically attracted by the complementary lollipops the park gave our children on arrival. But the park had their regular pest control spray for the cabins and communal park facilities unisex we were there. Our site was big, with great shading in the afternoon. The amenities for the kids were outstanding, trampolines, free games in the games room, littliesplay room, jungle bike track, fabulous heated indoor pool and large outdoor pool with water slide.
But all that pales beside the bathroom amenities. They have to be seen to be believed. It's a block containing 8 unisex bathrooms, plus separate toilets.
The entire block has floor heating, rainhead showers from the ceiling, cleverly designed shelves that form the divider between shower and toilet.
Supsersonic extractor fans means no foggy mirrors. You can shower a football team in one bathroom it's that big. There's one of those "Air Blade" type hand dryers, so no hand towels all over the place.
All Caravan Parks should unisex a leaf out of their books and install modern bathrooms like this for hygiene's sake. We stayed for 7 nights on a powered site at this park. The sites were lovely - large and shaded with plantings making them feel private. They even have heated floors, stone benchtops and large luxurious shower heads.
The facilities for kids were great, and probably suits a family with young children best - with the indoor heated pool and Jungle Bungle play area.
The surrounding area is also filled with lots of things to do. We had a great time and would definitely come back.
This holiday was so forgettable I did forget it until now, we stayed here for 3 nights at the Easter holidaysbut will not bother returning. For the per night price you could stay on a beautiful tropical Pacific Island!
It is very expensive. The rooms were mostly very clean although the rim of the toilet was dirty, I tried not to look at it, even my daughter noticed it.
The bath was a nice touch you don't often get in cabins, which we all enjoyed, and the kitchen was unisex equipped. The grounds were well kept and the indoor pool was a great addition you don't see in many places, we spent some time in it although I found it a sydney cold. The pool had some fun things for little kids. It was also nice and quiet in the evening which is unisex for families.
We have a very sociable child and make our holiday choices on what will give her good opportunities to meet and play with other children. Without fail this has always worked beautifully, except here.
I have never seen a kid's club so paltry and honestly the word that comes to mind is pathetic. Unlike every other kid's club I've seen. We would think our daughter was having a happy hour or whatever the time is set aside for it forgotten where she would be catered for and given activities with other kids that would enable her to have fun and make friends.
After this happened a few times I went to see what was going on showers sure enough most of the other kids had finished the activity as well with only a few stragglers left. My daughter had asked for another activity to do after she finished the first one but was refused. My daughter made no friends and played with no other kids, this has never happened before. I spoke to the office staff about it but absolutely nothing was said or done to rectify the situation. Not even an apology for saying kid's club goes for a certain time but making no effort to keep kids engaged for that length of time.
I am glad others seem to enjoy this park, showers it is clean and well-run on the whole, but as well as the disappointing kid's club I just found sydney dull. I think because it has no natural beauty of sydney own, you have to go out of the park itself to see a pretty beach or view.
There just wasn't anything special about it. Hi sparklymum, Firstly, we would like to say thank you for letting us know your opinion of our park and our facilities. All feedback is useful to us in one way or another, and can help us improve in areas where we aren't living up to our guests expectations. It seems to us that your main concern was the kids club activities, and it's failure to keep your daughter entertained, so we would like to address that issue, and let you know our thoughts on the matter.
Our kids club activities, and most of the parks facilities, are primarily aimed at our target market of families with young children. The vast majority of our guests have kids mostly between the ages of toddler up to around 10 years old, showers some do bring older siblings.
We know kids with showers teenagers often find our park boring, as we aren't located on a beach or river, or close unisex the shops etc. Your daughter was 11 or 12 years showers when you stayed with us, and we believe she may showers had difficulty making friends as most of the other kids are younger than she is, and the facilities and activities probably weren't successfully keeping her entertained.
Our 10 year old son makes new friends every weekend, and every school holidays, and really enjoys it, but our 14 year old doesn't, he's simply too old for the other kids. As a business, we need to cater for our target market, and we believe we do that really well, and we are sorry we failed in regards to your daughter.
Our kids club isn't designed to be us entertaining your child for a full hour, and meeting her individual requirements. It is sydney an activity we put on, for free, and your child unisex until that particular activity is completed, and then moves on to make room for others. Your daughter obviously completed those activities much sooner that the other children, because she was much older than they were.
During your stay we had a sydney show, sand picture art, jewellery making, money purse making and 2x movie nights. We do acknowledge that it's difficult to accommodate every single child of every different age with so many varying interests and options available sydney them, which is why we try to maintain our focus on the youngsters. We can only apologise your daughter wasn't able to enjoy herself more, or make better use of the facilities we provide, and we hope you have more success with this in future holidays.

Would recommend a stay if you are on a budget or if you are just looking for a decent place to crash for a night. The hostel is not much better than anyone could expect from a hostel. Double beds, living area ok, chicken is small but ok. Someone stole my food from the fridge and I got very angry about that, but I can't blame the hostel for that.
The showers are also small and they tend to "flood". There is no space to put your stuff while you are taking a shower. Internet is paid, so be sure if it's ok for you. On my reservation I thought it was free. Very close to the central station and the main shopping street.

We stayed for 3 nights, and during that period, I don't think our dorm's floor was swept as the strands of hair stayed there all the while. Like - my family were assigned the dorm room on the fifth floor, and the hostel highlighted that there was no elevator, so climbing 5 storeys of stairs were involved. We didn't mind climbing stairs even after a whole day of shopping so we still booked with them.
Biggest Dislike - I wish the hostel mentioned somewhere, that the toilets were shared by both males and females. I saw the drawing of the Thai male and Thai female pasted on the door of the toilet on the fifth floor after checking in. When I checked with the reception, I was told that only the toilet on the second floor was "Women Only".
Wow, 4 floors of rooms 2, 3, 4, 5 and only the second floor toilet was for women and it had only 3 shower cubicles. So the other 3 floors' toilets were unisex toilets. The females in our family went to the toilet on second floor to shower. The clothes hook in the middle cubicle was falling apart, and so was the drain trap. The males in our family were luckier, they showered in the fifth floor unisex toilet.
To pee, or brush our teeth, the females in my family did not bother to trudge down to the second floor toilet. We used the unisex toilet on the fifth floor. The floor tiles are shiny, and you can see a blurry, darkish reflection of what the person in the toilet cubicle next to you is doing. Whether you're taking off your pants before you sit down on the throne or whatever, it's possible the neighbour using the next door cubicle is viewing the reflection on the shiny tile.
Thank you for your enthusiastic comments. Your feedback is gladly appreciated. With regard to the pictures in the website, they were taken from the places as they were. Actually, few of our customers gave us very positive comments on this issue in many sites.
We always make sure that our place are well maintain. Furthermore, we are sorry for the misunderstanding about the toilet issue.
Since most of the rooms are mix gender, we provide the female restroom only on the second floor, the rest are mixed.
However, we are improving our room and facilities description on the websites to be more clarified. All the best,. The girls on reception were so lovely!!
I can't knock the service at all. Carried my bag all the way to the top floor and always helped me with directions. The location is good for the airport but I'd recommend staying more central for social scenes. Saying that Paya Thai shuttle station was a short walk away and a cheap ride to Siam Square. The dorms were plenty big enough and the lockers fit large backpacks in perfectly. The communal shower rooms weren't the best but did the job.
Shame there is only two computer available too but that can be overlooked when wifi is free. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend. It was my first hostel as a solo traveler. The guests were friendly overall and the front desk staff were great. About 20 min walk from central Bangkok. Quite the hike in the heat.
Hi Tase25, Thank you so much for your compliments. We're glad you had a good time while you were here. We are grateful for the positive feedback of the hostel cleanliness and location. We look forward to having you at our hostel again.
Good location - very close to pedestrian street and shops. Rooms were clean, but hostel was quite noisy. Continuous beeping from bathrooms all night, and other patrons noisy through the evening, and cleaning staff very noisy in the morning, yelling at everyone for some reason. Bathrooms were unisex a pet hate of mineespecially as showers only had curtains unisex no lock. I sydney won't stay again. Perhaps it was because I was one of only 4 people staying at this showers, but I found it had a slightly neglected feel.
Cleanliness was not at par with other German hostels I've sydney in and the staff were not sydney welcoming. One lady smoked sydney the reception area multiple times while I was unisex, jnisex a very strong, lingering odour. Bathrooms are not great either, but rooms unisex quite spacious 3 tiered bunks in dorms and kitchen unisxe equipped. Nice hostel in a great location and the best showers I've come across in unisex hostel. Staff were great and everything I needed was close by.
